Beatrix Woodhead Private Tutor

About Beatrix

Educated at Westminster School and King’s College, University of Cambridge, I have been a full-time tutor, mentor, and education consultant since 2014, specialising in super-selective school entry at the 11+ and 13+ levels.

During this time, I have worked with hundreds of students and accumulated many thousands of hours of teaching one-to-one and small groups.

Alongside tutoring, I write 11+ textbooks published by Collins, and have written materials, courses and assessments for top educational agencies and the best-known exam-practice websites.

Every year, my applicants make up a significant proportion of successful offer-holders at super-selective schools such as Westminster, St Paul’s, Eton and Winchester, and often include scholarship candidates (including recent successful King’s Scholarship applicants at Eton, academic scholars at KCS and music scholars at Westminster).

I often work with students who are ‘twice exceptional’, who have Special Educational Needs such as ADHD or autism in conjunction with a very high IQ. I love working with students who need a creative approach to learning.

I am a Boarding Schools’ Association-accredited education consultant, placing students in schools in the UK and maintaining close links with admissions departments to offer a holistic approach to school applications.

  • Bespoke 11+ Tuition

“Our daughter is currently working with Beatrix and is taking 11+ in January. She is a pupil at an independent academic girl's school in Hampstead and Beatrix has applied her unique skills to tailor a bespoke program for a very different child with similar success.  Our daughter relishes her time with Beatrix, has grown in confidence and is feeling quietly confident about the array of imminent exams and interviews.”

  • Specialist education & support

“We registered our son for nine schools, ranging from Westminster and St Pauls to Wetherby and Belmont, in the full knowledge that not all schools would potentially offer to a child with  a diagnosis of autism and a Statement of Education Needs.  The outcome was one that we could never have dreamed of.  He was offered places at every school.  He was awarded two scholarships, one of 30% at Merchant Taylor's School and one of 10% at Wetherby.  At St Paul's the head informed us that he was in the top twelve candidates in the English exam,  an extraordinary achievement given that he been such a reluctant writer and is a wonderful testament of Beatrix's expertise.  Myles started at our number one choice, in September.“

  • Expert tuition & mentorship

Beatrix's thorough approach reduced any associated stress regarding the 11+ process, for both us as parents, and for our children.  Her fastidious dedication, enthusiasm and skill in guiding us has been phenomenal.  Her tuition has covered all aspects of creative writing, comprehension, VR and NVR reasoning and general knowledge.  Beatrix's expertise and familiarity of the whole process, exam and interview techniques is staggering; she has a precise understanding of the requirements for individual schools.  Beatrix has an exhaustive knowledge of the relevant study materials and past papers.  Always there to answer our queries and concerns, whether by email or in person, she has calmly navigated us along what could have otherwise been a very difficult path.

  • Securing a place at London's top schools

"Aside from her thorough and constantly updated familiarity with the admissions and examinations procedures at London’s top schools, Beatrix’s particular gift to our children was to recognise their aptitudes and make these strengths legible to the British system, which was new to us. Our family's experience of working with her was of having an ally and confidante, rather than a scolding instructor, and this helped boost our kids’ confidence and encourage their own ambitions. Each has landed at the right school, managing to find places we thought impossible before engaging Beatrix."
